Well we have a goal to transition our family from suburbia to a more rural life. So one of the first things we did was to begin to rid ourselves of any debt, reduce our monthly expenses, and save, save, save. That plan is well under way. Of course we have had some hitches but that is to be expected in any family but things can get very interesting very fast when you have a family of ten. After all, life does go on and we are willing to make sacrifices but not make anyone suffer.
The next portion of the plan is to choose a place to purchase land. We have finally settled on an area that is closer to our family particularly our parents as they are entering their golden years. As a bonus land prices are considerably better in that area than where we currently reside. We plan to build our house ourselves by cutting our own timbers and lumber.
There is a bigger plan within the plan and that is to be completely debt free (not even a mortgage) within 10 years. But even more importantly we want to spend more time with our children.
You are heading in the right direction, in my opinion. The 'good life/back to basics/simple life' are all tops to me. You have a spouse who is like-minded and that will make it work well for you all. I'm proud of you and am excited to see how these hopes and dreams are fulfilled for you all. Love you much! :)
